Out and About Winter Equestrian Festival Style

The Winter Equestrian Festival is an exciting time for both horses, riders, friends, and family in Wellington, Florida. The “who’s who” of the equestrian scene is out and about, and looking your best both in and out of the show ring is essential. Whether you’re career-driven professional outside of the equestrian industry, or you have an established reputation as a trainer, the way you dress and present yourself is important. Luckily there are quite a few equestrian competition brands that are ‘taking the hint’ that wearing stylish apparel outside of the horse show ring is helpful. It’s great to have a show shirt that transitions well from the barn to beyond.

The best feeling after spending a day at the show is to kick back in something casual, drink a glass of wine, and enjoy some shopping. Comfortable flats are key! It’s great to have a piece like this ‘Margot’ shirt from Criniere to wear from the show ring to the grandstands. Throw on some great accessories, and you’re good to go!

More looks I am wearing:

Shirt: White ‘Margot’ by CRINIĒRE

Scarf: ‘Wellington Games’ by Banniere Co. (designer: Ashley C. Cagle)

Pants: Brushed Sateen Julie Fit by Loft

Sunglasses: Diffey Eyewear

Handbag: Oughton Limited

Being at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center is exciting as a rider, but one of my favorite things to do in Wellington is inviting my friends from the south Florida area to come and experience the show grounds as a spectator. While many of us get stuck in the ‘day-to-day’ grind at the rings, there are so many beautiful details around the horse show that we take for granted.

If you’re attending Saturday Night lights, or enjoying the horse show from the daytime, the style is relaxed/casual. If you’re heading into the VIP International Club, feel free to dress it up some more with some wedges and a dress, but only if your group is feeling up to it. You’ll still see riders dressed casually inside the International Club, so make it what you wish!

Equestrian detailed loafers or moccasins are so in right now. These are vintage by J.Crew, but there’s a handful of others out there including Stubbs and Wooten, Gucci, Sam Edelman, and more!

Everyone needs a classic ‘go-to’ handbag. This one by Oughton Limited is one of my favorites, and I love how lightweight it is! Even with the leather halter-type detail, it’s the perfect size and the best part, it’s not heavy at all!

A bag that zips is key, especially if you’re throwing it down in your tack trunk before you show. I also love the orange detail on the zipper pull underneath, it just adds a touch of color for this great neutral bag.

This silk scarf I hand designed for Banniere Co as part of the “Wellington” collection, it’s the Wellington Games scarf. Every discipline from showjumping, dressage, and polo is featured along with the iconic Palm Beach International Equestrian Center bridge. It’s a great Wellington souvenir if you’re looking to take something home this season!

Horse hair bracelets of your own horses make great equestrian style accessories to wear during the horse show season from the show ring and beyond. I love mixing and matching the horse hair pieces in with leather equestrian style wrap bracelets and/or bangle bracelets.

Looking for something to do after the horse show? We recommend visiting The Royal Poinciana Plaza, an iconic destination in the heart of Palm Beach with over 180,000 square feet of retail space, lush gardens, international shopping, and delicious dining options that take you back into a 1950s old-Florida vibe.
