Horse bits and lace are classic for a night out, in my opinion. I love wearing classic shift dresses with fun accessories. My mother gave me her black horse bit belt a few years ago, and I absolutely adore it. It’s vintage, and I love the way it clasps in the center of the bit. I wish they made this belt, because I would love one in brown! Lace and bows are also so fun and chic to wear, especially this time of year. Even if you don’t have too much equestrian style in your closet, simple accessories will make the perfect outfit! Enjoy!
Pink and Preppy Equestrian Style
Meet “Lebron”. He is a dark bay hunter stallion in Wellington, Florida. He is absolutely stunning with beautiful suspension. Formerly he was a Dressage horse, but now transformed into a beautiful Hunter horse who is ready for the show ring. I have fallen in love with Lebron, to make a long story short. He is the most gentle and calmest stallion I have met.
I love wearing pink polos on dark bay horses. I was feeling extra “preppy” for the day and threw on my Vineyard Vines patchwork tie belt over my breeches. *Remember* Always tuck your shirt in to your breeches when you ride, it really cleans up your look. Your equitation will improve if you do, trust me!

I school in draw reins to keep the horses collected as a guide on the flat.

Equestrian Style: Red Coat, Brown Horse.
A simple red peacoat and a dark bay horse looks stunning. A solid red peacoat is a classic jacket to have through the holidays. Wear it with a neutral or black dress. Dress it down with a pair of leggings, and dress it up with some fancy looking tights! Enjoy!

Equestrian Stylist: A “Schooling Outfit”
Even though days you are just “schooling” riding, you should look nice. My standard outfit for schooling days is: a comfortable pair of breeches, a polo, and a belt. Always tuck in your shirt when you are riding, it looks much more professional. Sometimes I wear my hair in a braid like here (I was being kind of lazy), but wearing a hairnet and tucking your hair into your helmet is also a much cleaner look.

Minnie, the horse, is wearing Hunter Green Professional Choice Bell Boots. I normally dislike colored bell boots, but this Hunter Green color is pleasing to the eye and doesn’t distract too much. Happy Schooling!

Vintage Equestrian Style
Vintage Equestrian photos are always inspiring. I searched the web for a few classic Equestrian style images that really incorporate the vintage and traditional feel to equestrian apparel.

The above photos I found from a lovely blog: here

Charity Horse Show: Wellington, Florida
Here I am at The Pony Ring in Wellington, Florida. A fabulous day surrounded by my favorite divisions: the pony hunters!
A typical “horse show stance” of trainers at the ring.
Pictured above is Hana Bieling: She won the Zone 4 Small Pony Hunter Championship.
(Pictured above: Amy Cline) at the pony ring. Love that horse shoe necklace she has on! The Palm Beach International Equestrian Center is already in full swing for horse show season. I visited on Saturday and hung out at the pony ring like old times. Some ponies I used to show with are still packing around little ones today… Such as Enchanted Forest. Here are a few trends I found important:
1.) I did notice that many young riders are staying in their jodhpur straps much longer. When I used to show, most riders in large ponies were wearing tall boots. Now, it’s pretty normal to see lots of jodhpurs in the large pony division.
2.) In speaking with my trainer and noticing trends, bows are out in the A circuit ring. Girls, get that hair up in a hairnet, judges want to see professional and classic looks. If you must wear bows, make sure they are not sloppy and not covering your number! The judge needs to be able to see your number.
3.) Leather belts with equestrian simple embellishments are in (such as a horse bit or stirrup). Simple, Classic, leather belts with breeches are worn underneath riding coats.
Pictured above: Scott Stewart is preparing his pony rider for the ring.
Pictured above: Meredith Darst: entering the pony ring. Look at that beautiful tail on Enchanted Forest! (Did you know they made a Breyer Horse model of him?) What a classic!
Pictured above: Jennifer Bieling and Hana Bieling: Jennifer trained me from pony hunters to amateur hunters. I reminisce when I see this photo… It brings back old memories of when I used to show in ponies! I hope you are inspired. Love, The Equestrian Stylist.
